- ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆I have been a client of the Bon Bon chocolate shop for years and unless something drastic forces me to stop eating chocolate it is quite possible that I'll still be a client for years to come, so when a friend suggested we had a cup of tea at their coffee shop (Which I had never visited) I jumped at the opportunity. Being informed that they had "English breakfast", "Earl Grey" and some other tea, we both though "Twinings" and since paying a few dollars for someone to pour boiling water over a tea bag seems a bit step, we decided to have coffee instead. I had a long black and a slice of orange and almond cake. The coffee was as it should be, slightly bitter with an intense aroma and low acidity, not bad at all. The slice of cake was moist, slightly sticky and with a delightful citrus flavour. As for the ambience, it is an interesting mixture, from the floor up, there is dark wood panelling which ends at about two meters high were meets with shelves where there are stacks of dusty, old suitcases which could pre-date WWII and other old things of similar age, all of which could do with some dusting. The lighting is from an 'eclectic' set of lamps, some of which have rust on them and point up to where the ceiling should be. Instead of ceiling, there are just wooden beams exposed which gives the impression the place is unfinished (Perhaps they run out of money). While having our coffee, our ears were tortured by strange noises emanating from some invisible speakers, these noises were undoubtedly product of a recording made by some misguided person with no musical talent, taste nor understanding of the concept of basic civility. If they put some pleasant music and finish the ceiling, I would dare to take a lady for coffee one day. For now, I'll stick to their chocolates from the ground floor, which are delicious.By Inspector Gadget, December 05, 2016
- ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆best chocolate in sydney ! but be prepared to pay extra for it. there is no dispute that Bon bon is better than lindt, haigh's, max b etc...... the only way that comes close is koko black, but they don't have a store in sydney so meh... anyway, flavor, texture wise there is just no other chocolate store that can come close to Bon Bon, it is the perfect gift to get points from girfriends / wife / boss etc.. suggest you also get a VIP card to save the points , coz it does get expensive very quickly...By fox bear, October 29, 2016
